If you are not racing at Port Macquarie and want to have fun and earn some great cash or prizes a trip up to Harvey Bay could be in order. On Sunday the 1st of May a field of up to 800 individuals and 150 teams will set out on what organisers describe as a safe, fair, and fun triathlon experience. They’re bringing back pretty much the same course that everyone loved in previous years but now with a more exciting 2 lap bike course.
It promises to be a great weekend for sports nuts, from the Sports Expo on Saturday morning through to the Sunday night after party and Monday morning’s recovery swim. Presentations will be accompanied by a catered buffet lunch and followed with a hotrod / street machine show in the (ex) transition area (from muscle-men to muscle-cars!).
Also new for 2011 is a ‘team matching service’ – if you don’t know anyone with whom you can form a team don’t worry, you can now enter a single leg and the organisers will match you up with the people from a similar demographic to for a team.
The planned prize pool for the event will be over $25,000 including $11,800 in cash making this one of the best prize pools in regional Australia for an Olympic Distance triathlon.
In addition all age category winners will receive custom minted medals custom made 2XU jerseys and a bottle of Cube/HBT wine (except the juniors)
First place male and female OA amateur athletes as well as first place male and female pro’s will receive a pair of Timex Global trainer watches. The total age group prize pool is over $5,600.
An extensive random draw pool is also planned – including a ready to ride Azzurri Chrono Elite bike worth over $3,000. Plus a host of supporting random draw prizes symbolising the participatory nature of triathlon and to reward those who have had the courage to put their toes over the starting line (random draw prize winners must be present to win)
