Round 5 of the Elite Energy triseries is on at Callala Beach on the weekend of 12-13 of February. If you have not raced in the triseries yet you have missed out on some great race days this season.
If you haven’t planned to go to Callala next weekend just take the plunge, register and get down there for a quick night away and some great racing.
This round of the triseries features a club distance race. 1km/30km/8km. Much more palatable at this time of the year for most of us.
Michael Fox who won the Huskisson round of the triseries and was second to Sam Douglas in the recent Nowra round will be racing for the number one spot at Callala. Between Michael and 1st place however will be Ben Hammond and a few others hoping to perform well. Others racing include Jason Chalker, Matthew Craft, Shane Farrant, Ben Humberstone, Matthew Pellow and Peter Roope.
The girls open race sees the return of Matilda Raynolds who has missed the last couple of rounds. Matilda pulled of a surprise 2nd at the opening round of the triseries in Forster against some top oposition. Matilda has since gone on to podium at Canberra Half Ironman and also win a round of the Sydney sprint series. Up against Matilda will be Kristy Craft hoping to take the number one position from her.
There is a rumour that Gi Singh (the man with the hair and budgie smuglers) will be racing. I haven’t seen Gi in person since he famously had all of his hair (beard and head) shaved at Busselton to raise money for cancer.
The atmosphere at Elite Energy’s events is second to none and this upcoming weekend will be no different. There is two days of racing which cater to all abilities and ages.
The race day has been structured so that most of the Club distance participants will be able to relax and watch the sprint race afterwards. This will be a great opportunity as those in the longer races tend to be consumed with setup when the shorted races are on before the longer race.
Callala Beach is yet another stunning town on Jervis Bay.It is worth the effort to head down there for the weekend.
