Change of Venue for the 2011 Sydney Round of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series?

USM Events, the organisers of the Sydney round of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship, have had to rethink their 2011 race strategy.

A curve ball has been thrown their way in the shape of a huge construction hole at the Sydney Opera House. Right where the transition area was in 2010  is where the new work to reroute vehicles that deliver goods to the Opera House is taking place.

This is frustrating for USM who put a lot of time in to planning the 2010 race with the view of fine tuning for 2011.

USM have been meeting with the relevant authorities this week to work out a new plan. At this stage it looks like the Botanical Gardens may hold the new transition area for the elite athletes. This will not affect the age group race which was not going to be housed at the Opera House anyway (for obvious reasons). Events NSW did not expect the NSW State Government to release funds for the Opera House transport upgrade and therefore were right behind the same plans for 2011.

It is expected that next week they should have a firm idea of the plans for 2011. Another option being muted is Darling Harbour however this is not the ideal venue according to USM.

USM Events are still confident of  staging a very successful event even with this small hurdle.
