After struggling to win for so long it seems Christie Sym has now found the winning habit with a dominant performance at Ironman 70.3 Cancun. Although there was only a small woman’s professional field Sym was backing up from the 70.3 World Championships in Las Vegas last weekend which was raced in very hot and tough conditions, and can be very pleased with her performance. “The conditions were tough as expected and were made tougher after backing up after the Ironman 70.3 world champs in Las Vegas last weekend!”.

Christie said that Heather Gollinick finished in 2nd place at Cancun today but the official results aren’t showing that at this stage.

In the men’s race Tim Reed from Lord Howe Island claimed third place behind Andi Boecherer of Germany and Italy’s Daniel Fontana.

After two weeks of very cold weather in Boulder, Reed said the heat really hit him in the race. His 1:27 run was uncharacteristically slower than he usually runs. “I was lucky to hold on to third after an implosion on the run. I just over heated and survived from aid station to aid station”.

Kiwi Bryan Rhodes finished 9th overall after being issued a 4min penalty.

According to reports James Hadley had a crash on the bike but still managed to hold on to 7th.
