Hervey Bay Olympic Distance Triathlon to be Resurrected in 2011

With the growing popularity of all triathlon distances any addition to the calendar is welcome, giving athletes another chance to test themselves, and when it is the comeback of an old favourite even better!

May 1 2011 will see the relaunch of one of QLD’s favourite races, and a return of the old Herey Bay.

The course will feature a 1.5 swim in the calm waters of Hervey Bay, a 40km ride comprising two separate out and back loop. The first to the east of transition, the second to the west (you can wave as you go past) then 5k down the Esplanade before a final 5 back along the foreshore bikeway.

Organisers expect that the entry fee should be about $100, and with a projected prize pool of $20,000 cash and prizes the event promises to be value for money. All competitors will also receive a custom designed high quality T-Shirt. The field will be limited to 800 individuals and 150 teams. These numbers should help keep the racing “draft legal” and give everyone the chance for a PB.

Additionally organisers are laying on a 2k ocean swim on the Monday morning -a great recovery opportunity and it is a public holiday in Qld.

Hervey Bay is a three hour drive north of Brisbane (or a direct jet flight from Sydney) accommodation is relatively cheap and plentiful at this time of year.
