Bragging rights will be up for grabs at November’s Challenge Shepparton with triathlon clubs invited to battle it out for the inaugural Tri-Club Cup.
Not only will the top club walk away with the glory but also $2000 prize money.Excited to introduce the Tri-Club Cup, event co-ordinator Liz Connick said the competition was sure to create some healthy club rivalry.
“The Tri-Club Cup is a way to celebrate inter-club competition within the sport of triathlon,” Ms Connick said.
“People are very excited to not only take away bragging rights but also $2000 prize money.”
Ms Connick said the cash was a big incentive and could be spent however the winning club decided, whether that was on a big celebration to honour their champions or put back into the club in some way, for example the purchase of new equipment.
To be in the running triathletes must nominate their club during the entry process with at least 10 club members competing in the Challenge Shepparton long course or sprint races including a minimum of five in the long course race.
The club with the lowest average individual long course race time will reign supreme.
With Challenge Shepparton kicking off the Australian triathlon season Ms Connick said the new addition would be a great way to encourage team bonding, participation and co-operation.
“It’s a great opportunity for clubs to come out and compete as a club,” she said.
“Tri Club members can come to Shepparton to compete as a club as well as individually.” Ms Connick said the Tri-Club Cup would become a sought-after accolade at the annual Challenge Shepparton event.
Executive Director of Triathlon Victoria Grant Cosgriff congratulated Challenge Shepparton on its initiative creating the Tri-Club Cup.
“We’ve noticed a real emphasis from the team at ‘Challenge Shepp’ to provide clubs and members with connection, reward and value,” Mr Cosgriff said.
“The chance for a club to walk away with $2000 is a great reward for active clubs.
“Whilst bragging rights are great, they don’t pay the bills and $2000 will provide a club with additional resources to support their members and grow.
“We look forward to seeing who takes home the cash in November.”
