WTC has confirmed that the Urban Hotel Group 70.3 Port Macquarie race will be held on Sunday November 6th 2011. The event will double as the Australian Age Group Championship, with the winners of each age group receiving the opportunity to enter the sold out Ironman Australia in May 2012. Entries will open at 12pm (NOON) AEST on Saturday, July 23. The announcement was made after an agreement was signed between World Endurance Australia Pty Ltd (Ironman) and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
In May of this year the 70.3 and full Iron distance races were held concurrently, however this did attract some criticism from athletes, and caused some logistical challenges. No doubt the small businesses of Port Macquarie will welcome the prospect of two bumper out of peak tourist season weekends that the race will bring.
