Switzerland’s Caroline Steffen has backed up from a 4th place in the Abu Dahbi International Triathlon, held one week ago, to win the Aviva Ironman 70.3 triathlon in Singapore. Steffen won by over eight minutes in a time of 4:18:14. Jodie Swallow was second in 4:26:32 and Margaret Shapiro was third in 4:31:37.
Swallow lead Steffen by over two minutes out of the water and in to T1. She held her lead with a faster bike split than Steffen but it was to be the run that proved to be the decider. Steffen ran almost 11 minutes faster than Swallow to post a 1:25:54 half marathon.
Steffen has had a string of podiums in long distance triathlons over the last year with two 3rd’s and a 1st in 2009 and a recent 2010 2nd at New Zealand’s Port of Tauranga Half Ironman and 1st at the 2010 Ironman 70.3 in Geelong, Australia.
