Day 1: RBC Super League Triathlon Jersey

Day 1 of RBC Super League Triathlon Jersey 2019 did not disappoint the packed-out crowds lining the course in St Helier. It was France’s Cassandre Beaugrand who cruised to victory in the first Women’s Semi-Finals earlier this afternoon, with Netherlands’ Rachel Klamer claiming the top spot in Group B.

Reigning SLT Champion Vincent Luis’ title defence was unwavering, taking the win comfortably in the Men’s Group A Semi-Final. New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde put on a sensational performance in Group B, crossing the line 20 seconds before the next finisher, Australia’s Aaron Royle.

Saturday was a day of celebrating young talent as the Men’s and Women’s Group B races both welcomed the winners of the Junior Girls and Boys events from earlier in the day – Germany’s Selina Klamt and Simon Henseleit. Klamt held her ground in the Women’s Pro race, sticking with Hungary’s Zsanett Bragmayer for the majority of the race until she fell behind the leader by 90 seconds and faced elimination.

But it was Henseleit who stole the show, claiming the last of the ‘five next fastest’ places in the Men’s Semi-Finals by photo-finish, meaning, incredibly, he had qualified for the Finals on Sunday. Understandably, the prospect of a third SLT race in two days proved too much for the Junior winner, who respectfully passed his place on to his photo-finish race-mate Aidan Longcroft-Harris. Certainly, a weekend to remember for the 19-year-old German.

All Semi-Finals winners from Day 1 receive a Short Chute advantage in tomorrow’s Final.
