All Eyes Turn to Challenge Asia-Pacific Championship in Taiwan

Following the success of THECHAMPIONSHIP 2018 in Samorin Slovakia, CHALLENGEFAMILY’s championship focus now shifts to Asia for the conduct of the Challenge Family Asia Pacific Championship, to be held in Taitung, Taiwan on November 18, 2018.

The event, officially known as the Triathlon Middle Distance Championship Asia-Pacific, will be the first Asian triathlon Championship event to be held in Taiwan and is expected to attract thousands of athletes from across the Asia-Pacific and Europe.

Like THECHAMPIONSHIP event at the full distance, the Asia Pacific Championship is Challenge Family’s feature middle distance event of the season, with the Taiwan event being held at the popular 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1 run distance.

The Asia Pacific Championship Taiwan is being produced by the team behind CHALLENGETAIWAN, an incredible event which attracted more than 4,000 participants in the 2018 edition of the event this past April.

Jovi Lo, CHALLENGEASIA-PACIFIC CEO and Event Director;

“We are honoured to host the Asia-Pacific Championship in Taiwan and our world-class event team is committed to delivering an extraordinary experience for all event participants. More than 4,000 athletes who raced at Challenge Taiwan this year can attest that Taitung is an incredible part of the World and combined with the prestige and scale of this Championship event, we will create lasting memories for everyone who races with us in November.”

Professional athletes will compete for a EURO $100,000 prize purse at the Asia Pacific Championship and the event will carry double qualification spots for the 2019 edition of THECHAMPIONSHIP. Male and Female pro’s will receive equal prize money with both male and female winners of the Asia Pacific Championship receiving EURO $20,000. Prize money will pay through to sixth place for male and female pro fields.

Belinda Granger, CHALLENGEFAMILY Pro Athlete Liaison;

“We saw an incredible professional field at THECHAMPIONSHIP to weekend’s ago and we expect to see a similar quality field in Taiwan later this year. CHALLENGEFAMILY is committed to providing world-class competition and prize money for professional athletes and Taiwan will be a showpiece of professional racing”

Age group athletes are not required to qualify for the Asia Pacific Championship and triathletes of all levels and abilities are welcome to register for the Asia Pacific Championship, which can be done here.

Athletes visiting Taitung can expect to be immersed in the most beautiful part of Taiwan featuring the East Rift Valley coastline and the traditions of indigenous Tawainese cultures. The race course includes the swim leg in the incredible Flowing Lake, a spring-fed, crystal clear, 11-hectare lake in Taitung Forrest Park. The bike course ascends the lofty Carp Mountain and traverses the Pacific coastline. The run course is a contrast of quiet open fields combined with the lively Taitung city centre and the finish line in Tie Hua Village, where athletes will be welcomed by thousands of spectators.
