Barbara Riveros Diaz from Chile Wins the Opening Round of Dextro Energy Triathlon 2010 ITU World Championship Series in Sydney
In a tightly contested race Barbara Riveros Diaz from Chile upset the more fancied triathletes to win the first round of the Dextro Energy Triathlon 2010 ITU World Championship series in Sydney. She edged out Andrea Hewitt from New Zealand and the Australian hopeful Emma Moffatt.
In an exciting three way sprint to the line Barbara Riveros Diaz held out Hewitt from New Zealand who managed to out sprint Moffatt in the finishing shute. Barbara Riveros Diaz 1st, CHI, 2:04:19 - Andrea Hewitt 2nd, NZL, 2:04:19 - Emma Moffatt 3rd, AUS, 2:04:20
Bevan Docherty 1st, NZL, 1:51:27 - Alexander Brukhankov 2nd, RUS, 1:51:33 - David Hauss 3rd, FRA, 1:51:34. A technical bike course produced slower than normal bike times.

Docherty, Brukhankov and Hauss take out the podium spots in the opening race of the 2010 ITU World Championship series. Docherty was gracious but did take the opportunity to point out that he was a Kiwi winning a race in Australia.

We asked Jan about his expectations for 2010 and what he has done to prepare for this year's series. Apart from recently suffering from a stomach bug Jan's preparation this year has been much more solid than in 2009. After the high of winning Olympic Gold in Beijing in 2008 it was not until halfway through the 2009 season that Frodena felt he was he was racing well again. This year has been very different.
